Cornell Wine Co. was named after the town of Cornell, an unincorporated community in western Los Angeles County, California. It is located 5 miles west of Agoura Hills and approximately 2.5 miles north of Malibu in the heart of the Santa Monica Mountains.
The town of Cornell gets its name from an act of kindness by Ezra Cornell, the founder of Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. Back in the late 1800's a group of former students reached out to him for help in establishing a one-room schoolhouse for local families in their community. Ezra donated books and a syllabus for the students and in gratitude they named their town after him.
We sit directly next to The Old Place restaurant, which opened in 1970. Before that the building served as Hank's Country Store and was also the official post office for the town of Cornell.
